Serving as an educator has been a joyous experience. Each day is filled with promise and opportunity and I am honored to work in the profession with students who will shape our future, colleagues who are dedicated, and leaders who are energizing. I have over a decade of classroom experience, been able to serve as an instructional coach, and develop professional learning opportunities for teachers. I certified as an English as a New Language Specialist in Early Adolescent-Young Adults with National Board in 2011 and have been grateful for the process ever since. It has made me dig deep into my instructional practice and understand the dynamic roles teachers play in and out of the classroom. My goals within the network are to support others on their journey to becoming National Board Certified and to develop collaborative opportunities for teachers to grow and reflect on their instructional practice in order to meet the educational needs of students.

Gina Wilson, Director

I'm a Nationally Board Certified Math Teacher at the Early College Alliance @ Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI and a Michigan Educator Voice Fellow. While I was a doctoral candidate in chemical engineering at the University of Michigan I created engineering activities for middle school and high school girls through the Women In Engineering Program. I decided to leave the doctoral program and become a middle school math teacher.
After teaching 6th grade for three years, I now teach and chair the math department at the Early College Alliance while working to improve math education and to elevate the teaching profession. I am extremely excited to be part of the MI NBCT Network and strongly believe Nationally Board Certified Teachers have the background to be teacher leaders and help shape education. My goals with the Network include reaching out to universities for collaboration opportunities and working to raise the awareness of National Board Certification with educators, families, and policy makers.
